Spinning Wheel Workshop

from $100.00

This class is for students both new to spinning and those who need a refresher. Learn to spin your own yarn in this one-on-one, or small group workshop! Many fiber enthusiasts yearn to create a specific yarn for that very special project, this workshop will teach you how fast, fun, and easy it is to create your own yarns which you can use to knit, crochet, and weave with. You’ll be surprised how quick and easy the process from raw fiber to useable yarn is after taking this workshop.

This workshop will be tailored to your personal learning goals. Your instructor can teach you how to:

-Take raw fleece and card or comb it into roving, spin, ply, and finish the yarn. The workshop can focus on any one of these steps in detail, or go over all of them. We’ll also discuss the pros and cons of purchasing a modern versus antique wheel when shopping for a first wheel. Spinning techniques taught will be: short forward draw, long draw, and spinning from the fold. The difference between woolen and worsted spinning will also be discussed.

After signing up, you will be emailed by the instructor, Anton Sarossy-Christon, to discuss your learning objectives, and set up a time for your lesson(s). Please be sure to allow emails from gorgesfiber@gmail.com. Classes will be scheduled:

Wednesdays/Thursdays starting between 3:00-4:00, Fridays starting between 12:00-3:00, and Saturdays from 2:00-4:00. Students will be provided with 1 ounce of BFL combed top to practice on and may take home anything they have left over to continue spinning with at home.

We practice the tradition of spinning in socks, or slippers with soft soles so as not to produce wear marks on the treadles, please be prepared to remove your shoes when spinning.

This class can accommodate up to 3 students per class.

Most students spend 2 hours learning how to use the spinning wheel. Additional time over 2 hours will be charged at the end of the day’s lesson.
